✷ Since 1976 in Sevenoaks · bespoke design · hand-engraving

The bespoke jeweller on Bank Street, since 1976.

A small Sevenoaks workshop that has been making engagement rings, wedding bands and signets to commission for fifty years. Every piece is drawn on the desk in front of you, modelled in CAD, fitted in wax on your finger, then cast and hand-finished on the bench at 8-10 Bank Street. Walk-in welcome; the unhurried bespoke conversations are by appointment.

FOUR LINES OF WORK · ONE BENCH

Bespoke design, shape-to-fit bands, workshop repairs, hand-engraving.

Every commission lives on the same Sevenoaks bench, from the first pencil sketch on the desk to the final polish and hallmark.

BESPOKE DESIGN

Bespoke commissions, hand-drawn and made on the premises.

From the first conversation at the desk to a hand-drawn sketch, a CAD render and a wax fitting, then the cast and the hand-finish on the bench. Natural diamonds and certified lab-grown alternatives, coloured stones sourced to your brief. Engagement rings from £1,200.

WEDDING RINGS

Shape-to-fit bands cut against the engagement ring on the bench.

All our shape-to-fit wedding rings are produced and made in our own workshop, which gives us the ability to shape the wedding ring against your engagement ring. Diamond-set, contemporary and traditional bands. Most high-street jewellers send shape-to-fit out; ours is checked under the loupe in the same Sevenoaks room.

WORKSHOP REPAIRS

Repairs and re-mounts in a working Sevenoaks workshop.

Re-sizing, re-tipping worn claws, soldering broken chains, restringing pearl strands, polish and rhodium. Inherited centre stones reset into 2026-profile mounts without recutting. The same goldsmith who designs the bespoke also does the repair, on the same bench, at the same address.

SIGNETS & ENGRAVING

Hand-engraved signet rings, oval, round and square stone faces.

Family crests, monograms, the lone initial. Hand-engraved in the workshop, not laser-etched at a third party. The wax-and-seal feeling of a signet is the closest thing modern jewellery has to a personal mark; ours start as a pencil sketch and end on the finger of someone who will wear it for forty years.

YOUR COMMISSION · WEEK BY WEEK

From a conversation at the desk to a ring in the box.

Five to six weeks from first conversation to finished ring. You see every stage before any metal is cast.

  1. 01 Week 1

    Conversation at the desk

You bring an idea, a Pinterest board, a stone, or nothing. We talk through metals, stones, settings, budget. No sale pressure; many first conversations end with no commission at all.

  2. 02 Week 2

    Hand-drawn sketch

A pencil sketch on the desk, then a tighter rendering once we have agreed the shape. You see the ring before any metal exists, and we revise it until the drawing is the ring you want.

  3. 03 Week 3

    CAD render and stone selection

The sketch becomes a CAD model. We source loose stones to your spec, lab-grown or natural, and you see them under the loupe before either of us commits. Lab-grown can be up to eighty per cent less; the choice is yours, openly.

  4. 04 Week 4

    Wax fitting on your finger

A wax of the ring is made and sized to your finger. Comfort, proportion, claw height; everything tested in resin before any gold is cut.

  5. 05 Weeks 5-6

    Cast, set, finish

The wax is cast in your chosen metal, the stone is set on the bench, the ring is hand-finished and hallmarked. You collect it in the box.

FIFTY YEARS ON BANK STREET · 1976 → TODAY

1976 · The Little Gem opens at 8-10 Bank Street, a small bespoke jeweller a short walk from the railway station.

What started as a Sevenoaks bespoke shop is still a Sevenoaks bespoke shop. The address has not moved. The bench has not moved. The conversation that begins a commission still happens at the desk by the window, with the kettle on and a pencil in hand, before any sketchbook opens or any CAD file is named.

Fifty years of engagement rings, wedding bands shape-cut against them, signet rings hand-engraved with a family crest, repairs that bring inherited pieces back to life. The workshop is small on purpose; the goldsmith who designs the ring is the goldsmith who casts it.

1976 The Little Gem opens at 8-10 Bank Street, Sevenoaks. A small bespoke jeweller, by appointment and by walk-in.
1980s Workshop established on the premises; shape-to-fit wedding bands brought in-house.
1990s Hand-engraved signet work added; re-mount service formalised for inherited stones.
2010s CAD render added to the bespoke sequence so customers see the ring before it is cast.
2020s Lab-grown diamonds offered alongside natural, openly, with the price difference declared at the desk.

THE SPECIALISM · SHAPE-TO-FIT, ON THE BENCH

The wedding ring is cut against your engagement ring, in the same Sevenoaks room.

Most high-street jewellers send shape-to-fit wedding bands out to a third-party workshop and weeks later the band comes back, hoped to fit. Ours is made in the workshop on the premises, which gives us the ability to shape the wedding ring against your engagement ring, on the bench, under the loupe, both rings in the same room at the same time.

  • Tapered milgrain scaled to the engagement-ring profile, not a stock-cut taper.
  • Inherited-stone re-mounts reset into a 2026-profile setting without recutting the stone.
  • Wax fitting on your finger before any metal is cast; comfort, claw height and proportion tested in resin first.
BOOK A CONSULTATION · AN UNHURRIED HOUR

Tell us what you have in mind. We will book the desk and put the kettle on.

Walk-in is welcome at 8-10 Bank Street, but the bespoke conversations are unhurried and we like to give them a proper hour. Booking ahead means the desk is yours, the goldsmith is at the bench when you arrive, and the kettle is already warm.

  • An unhurried hour at the desk, by appointment
  • No sale pressure; many first conversations end with no commission at all
  • Bring the stone, the inspiration, the inherited piece, or none of those
  • If a commission follows, we email a hand-drawn sketch within five working days

A photo of an inherited piece or a sketch helps the first conversation; you can email info@thelittlegem.uk directly if it is easier than uploading.

FAQ · FIVE QUESTIONS WE GET MOST

Quick answers, then bring the idea in.

How does the bespoke process actually work, week by week?

Five to six weeks from first conversation to finished ring. Week 1, a conversation at the desk and a budget. Week 2, a hand-drawn sketch. Week 3, the CAD render and the stone selection (lab-grown or natural). Week 4, a wax of the ring sized to your finger. Weeks 5-6, casting, setting, hand-finishing and hallmarking. The walk-through happens at the desk; bring the stone if there is one.

Lab-grown or natural diamond, and what is the price difference?

A lab-grown diamond is chemically and visually identical to a mined one, and typically costs sixty to eighty per cent less for the same size, colour and clarity. We carry both, openly, and quote the same setting in both side by side so you can choose with the actual numbers in front of you. Most engagement rings under £3,000 in the shop today are lab-grown.

Can you reset my grandmother’s stone into a new setting?

Yes. The re-mount service takes an inherited centre stone (or a parcel of smaller stones from an old piece) and rebuilds it into a contemporary mount without recutting. You bring the piece in, we lift the stones, draw the new design on the desk, and rebuild it from there. The stone you remember is the stone you wear, just held differently.

Will you shape a wedding band to my existing engagement ring?

Yes, and we make every shape-to-fit band in the workshop on the premises rather than sending it out to a third-party manufacturer. You bring the engagement ring to the desk, we shape the wedding band against it on the bench, and the two are checked under the loupe together before either leaves us. Most shape-to-fit bands are ready inside three weeks.

Do I need an appointment, or can I just walk in?

Walk-in is welcome, but the bespoke conversations are unhurried and we like to give them a proper hour. Booking a consultation in advance means the desk is yours, the kettle is on, and the goldsmith is at the bench when you arrive rather than mid-repair. Call 01732 469332 or use the form below.
